Firmware Engineer II (HDD)

Location: On-site at the Longmont, Colorado facility, Monday–Friday; United States

Salary: $82,305.60–$100,048.00 annual base salary

What you will do

• Design, develop, debug, and validate embedded firmware for HDD storage devices.
• Analyze, document, and communicate hardware and firmware functionality.
• Investigate complex events using emulators, logic analyzers, and other engineering tools.
• Define firmware requirements and architecture with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams.
• Optimize firmware performance, scalability, efficiency, and reliability.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to technical reviews, risk assessments, product planning, and development-process improvements.

Requirements

• Experience developing embedded firmware and a strong understanding of embedded systems and hardware-software integration.
• Proficiency in C and C++ with strong debugging and optimization skills.
• Experience with secure coding practices and firmware reliability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with 1–3 years of experience, or a Master’s degree in Computer Science with 0–2 years of experience.
• Ability to work on-site Monday–Friday at the Longmont, Colorado facility.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of HDD or SSD architecture and SATA, SAS, or NVMe protocols.
• Experience with cloud storage, distributed storage architecture, data centers, file systems, storage interfaces, and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of AI/ML concepts and their use in intelligent storage.
• Experience with data analysis and visualization, version control, CI/CD, automated testing, and Agile development.
