Senior Software Engineer, Networking & Real-Time Systems (C++)

Location: Mountain View, California (HQ)

Salary: $193,930–$291,150 annual base pay, plus performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Architect a network bonding framework that aggregates bandwidth across Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile cellular providers.
• Build ns-3-like simulations to stress-test networking systems in tunnels, rural dead zones, and congested networks.
• Develop custom congestion control algorithms for high-bitrate, low-latency video streaming.
• Design networking solutions using custom FEC and other reliability mechanisms for mobile environments.
• Partner with Hardware and Embedded teams to optimize the network stack on vehicle gateways.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience, or a PhD focused on Networking or Distributed Systems plus 3+ years of industry experience.
• Expertise in C++ and experience writing performant, thread-safe code for real-time systems.
• Deep understanding of the Linux networking stack, socket programming, and data flow from the physical layer to the application.
• Strong understanding of TCP/UDP limitations in high-mobility environments and techniques such as FEC or ARQ.
• Experience with C++20 and Go.
• Experience with WebRTC, WebSocket, QUIC, SRT, gRPC, and Wireshark.

Nice to have

• Experience with video streaming frameworks such as WebRTC.
• Understanding of video codecs including VP8, VP9, H.264, and H.265.
