Orbital Analyst Engineer (Aerospace): Solving operational orbital mechanics problems and processing orbit state and prediction data with an accent on space situational awareness, satellite catalog maintenance, and collision avoidance. Focus on real-time orbital analysis, orbit determination and maintenance, conjunction assessment, and supporting customer situational awareness and decisions.

Location: Vandenberg SFB, California, United States; onsite

Salary: $85,000–$110,000 per year, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.

What you will do

  • Solve operational orbital mechanics problems and process orbit state and prediction data.
  • Coordinate information and findings across functional areas to develop products that support customer situational awareness and decision-making.
  • Perform real-time analysis and resolve technical and operational problems.
  • Support conjunction assessment, proximity operations, and other orbit analysis tasks.
  • Work outside normal business hours when required for crew operations.

Requirements

  • US citizenship is required.
  • Must be eligible for and willing to complete a background investigation and application for a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Two or more years of space-related experience in space situational awareness, satellite catalog maintenance, orbital analysis, and collision avoidance.
  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, orbit determination and maintenance, perturbation-based data and formats, orbit decay, and orbital maneuvers.
  • Understanding of space object tracking sensors, networks, data, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems, particularly Red Hat or Fedora, and Astrodynamics Support Workstation software or similar tools.

Nice to have

  • Technical degree in aerospace engineering, engineering, space operations, or physics.
  • Experience with orbital or space science data and non-regular data message management.
  • Ability to create short Perl or other scripting-language programs for data-processing automation.
  • Ability to multitask and apply innovative analysis in a dynamic work environment.
