Newsroom Summer Internship Program 2027: Graphics Reporter (Data Visualization)

Location: Washington, D.C., based out of hirify.global headquarters

What you will do

• Report and write articles, edit copy, and contribute to multimedia newsroom projects.
• Create or assist with data-driven maps, databases, social media applications, widgets, and mobile tools.
• Use charting, coding, mapping, and data visualization to develop interactive news stories.
• Mine existing online data, process feeds, and collaborate with reporters, editors, and digital producers.
• Work across photography, video, audio, design, audience strategy, and data analysis as needed.

Requirements

• Must be a college junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in a degree program by noon Eastern time on October 9, 2026.
• Proficiency in CSS, HTML, jQuery, and JavaScript.
• Experience developing with databases, XML, JSON, PHP, and/or Django.
• Ability to identify stories best told through data visualization, maps, or interactive experiences.
• Commitment to accuracy, clarity, and journalistic rigor.
• Submit a résumé, an autobiographical essay of no more than 500 words, and a portfolio containing 5–10 work examples with an explanation of the role in each.
