Availability Engineering Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid, based in or near Bloomington, Illinois; Dunwoody, Georgia; Richardson, Texas; or Tempe, Arizona. Reside within a 180-mile radius of the listed hubs and work part-time from the office.

Potential starting salary: $85,000–$125,000 per year, based on skills, background, and experience. Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend, frontend, and full-stack features for the Proactive Discovery Tool and other Availability Assurance applications.
• Design and support application modernization, including migrating containerized workloads to cloud-native platforms such as ROSA and OpenShift.
• Support applications across requirements, implementation, monitoring, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with engineers, product partners, support teams, and quality teams to deliver reliable, user-focused solutions.
• Improve performance, scalability, reliability, and observability; troubleshoot production issues and participate in code reviews and testing.
• Participate in technical triage, investigate outages and service disruptions, identify root causes, recommend recovery actions, and improve application and infrastructure resiliency.

Requirements

• Experience developing and supporting software applications using JavaScript for frontend and backend development.
• Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including version control, CI/CD, testing practices, containers, and secure coding principles.
• Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
• Ability to learn and adapt solutions to enterprise architecture and technology standards for modernization efforts.
• Working knowledge of enterprise infrastructure platforms and security principles, including ROSA, WAS, CaaS, AWS, Azure, load balancing, LDAP, and proxy services.
• Experience with monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Elasticsearch, and Grafana.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, collaboration, and communication skills, including the ability to diagnose complex application and infrastructure issues.
• Self-motivation, curiosity, willingness to learn new technologies, and the ability to balance software engineering with operational and availability-focused work.
• Eligibility to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; U.S. work authorization sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed systems, resiliency engineering, or site reliability practices.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of Linux, containers, cloud-native technologies, and enterprise application platforms.
• Experience supporting production applications in a large-scale environment.
