Staff Backend Engineer - Data Platform- San Francisco (AI)

Location: Remote, with preference for candidates within commuting distance of offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and maintain workflows, APIs, data pipelines, customer-facing UIs, and scripts for automated and manual data ingestion.
• Access, ingest, validate, normalize, and orchestrate customer data from ad networks, warehouses, and partner tools.
• Develop long-running workflows and observability infrastructure supporting the Data Platform.
• Contribute to AI MCP services owned by the team.
• Partner with Customer Success to create custom data models for customers.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience building backend services and APIs as a backend engineer, full-stack engineer, data engineer, or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL/dbt.
• Strong fluency with a modern orchestrator such as Dagster, Airflow, or Temporal.
• Experience with cloud data lakehouses or warehouses, such as BigQuery or Databricks.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud or AWS.

Nice to have

• Experience with React or other frontend frameworks.
• Experience with Fivetran, Airbyte, or Terraform.
• Experience integrating commerce platforms such as Shopify or Amazon Seller/Vendor.
• Earlier-stage startup experience.
