Senior Security Engineer (Detection & Response)

Location: Based in San Francisco, United States; regular office presence is required. Candidates in San Francisco or willing to relocate are preferred. Relocation support is available.

Salary: $183,272–$229,091 USD base salary per year, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build, ship, and tune detections across endpoint, identity, SaaS, and cloud environments.
• Measure detection quality through MITRE ATT&CK coverage, precision, and time-to-detect.
• Own incident response from triage and containment through remediation and retrospectives.
• Build automation to reduce investigation toil and maintain context across time-zone handoffs.
• Define telemetry requirements for new infrastructure and product systems before release.
• Proactively threat hunt across the technology estate and convert findings into detections or documented coverage.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience in detection engineering, incident response, or threat hunting, with hands-on detection development and tuning.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python or Go, and ability to write production-grade detection and automation code.
• Experience with a modern SIEM or detection pipeline, such as Panther, Elastic, or Splunk.
• Practical experience leading or significantly contributing to the triage and closure of real security incidents.

Nice to have

• Experience treating detections as code through CI/CD, peer review, and staged rollout.
• Experience defining telemetry contracts before systems ship.
• Experience critically evaluating and validating AI-assisted work.
• Familiarity with cloud-native and Kubernetes telemetry.
• Experience with fraud or financial-crime detection patterns.
