Staff Security Engineer (Cloud Detection & Response)

Location: Hybrid; work from an hirify.global office at least 3 days per week. Primary locations include Mountain View, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and Seattle.

Salary: $189,000–$303,000 per year for San Francisco, Mountain View, and Seattle; $171,000–$273,000 per year for Pittsburgh. Additional annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits are available.

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional initiatives to mature detection infrastructure, log ingestion and normalization, detection-as-code pipelines, testing, versioning, and CI/CD.
• Expand and prioritize detection coverage across cloud and corporate environments using scalable, cost-aware telemetry.
• Design, build, and tune detections for cloud control planes, workloads, identity attacks, endpoints, SaaS threats, CI/CD abuse, and service-to-service communication.
• Partner with Cloud Infrastructure, IT, and Platform Engineering to embed logging and detection requirements into system designs and reviews.
• Integrate threat intelligence and adversary emulation into coverage priorities, conduct proactive threat hunting, and respond to security incidents through an on-call rotation.
• Mentor SOC engineers and contribute to quarterly planning for detection infrastructure and coverage initiatives.

Requirements

• 10+ years of security experience and a record of leading cross-functional security projects or programs from scoping through delivery.
• Strong expertise in threat detection, incident response, cloud security, cloud-native telemetry, and detection sources across one or more major cloud providers.
• Experience building or maturing SIEM or security data lake pipelines, log onboarding and normalization, and detection-as-code workflows.
• Expertise with endpoint detection and response, SaaS security monitoring, detection authoring and maintenance, and measuring coverage against adversary behavior.
• Experience with incident management, cross-departmental containment and remediation, MITRE ATT&CK, and NIST CSF.
• Ability to write quality, testable Python code.

• Experience designing and implementing Zero Trust Architecture.
• Experience scaling SOC or detection engineering with AI/LLM.
• Experience building and architecting data lakes.
• Experience with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 compliance frameworks.
