Backend Java Developer (IoT)

Location: Work from home 100% of the time or work from one of the global offices; weekly travel to Macau may be required.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and service integrations.
• Implement event-driven messaging with MQTT and Kafka.
• Support IoT integrations with Raspberry Pi-based devices.
• Collaborate with frontend, QA, Product, and infrastructure teams.
• Troubleshoot distributed systems and improve performance, reliability, and security.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of Java experience is required.
• 5+ years of backend software development experience with strong Java and Spring Boot proficiency.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with MQTT messaging is required.
• Experience with Kafka or other event-streaming platforms, Docker, and Linux environments.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; willingness to travel to Macau weekly when required.

Nice to have

• Experience developing solutions for hospitality, IoT, or connected-device environments.
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
