TL;DR
Equipment Engineer (Nuclear) (Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation & Control): Delivering nuclear equipment contracts across design, engineering, manufacture, and installation for a major EPR new-build programme with an accent on cross-functional technical decisions, risk management, and value engineering. Focus on resolving multidisciplinary issues, developing mitigation plans, and ensuring equipment solutions meet quality, safety, governance, and schedule requirements.
Location: Bristol, United Kingdom; on-site attendance required 3 days per week
Salary: GBP 40,000–50,000 per year

What you will do
- Own cross-functional technical issues across equipment design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation.
- Provide escalation routes for deadlocked issues and drive pragmatic, innovative optioneering.
- Work with programme and technical teams to prioritise emerging scope and maximise delivery value.
- Manage global and specific project risks, including risk tracking and mitigation plans.
- Govern engineering decisions and ensure they are made at the appropriate level.
- Manage engineering services for the HPC project, focusing on value engineering and optimisation.
Requirements
- Sound, pragmatic engineering judgement in a relevant discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering experience is also considered.
- Understanding of the nuclear industry, ALARP principles, and safety case alignment.
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment design processes, manufacturing, and related activities.
- Understanding of engineering quality requirements and practices.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Experience level: 4–10 years; BPSS clearance is required.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of power station design, including EPR or PWR technology.
- Understanding of the HPC project structure and the roles of RD, the Technical Directorate, and Nuclear Services.
- French language skills.
