Senior Security Engineer

Location: Hybrid in San Carlos, CA, with 3+ days per week onsite and remote work available on remaining days. All work must be performed in the United States.

Salary: $165,000–$240,000 per year plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and implement secure architectures across applications, cloud infrastructure, and data systems.
• Protect sensitive data through access management, encryption, and secure data-handling controls.
• Assess and mitigate security risks through vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security reviews.
• Lead incident detection, containment, remediation, and follow-up analysis.
• Partner with software engineering teams to integrate security practices into the SDLC.
• Implement and operate security monitoring and logging for real-time threat detection and response.

Requirements

• 5–9 years of hands-on experience in security engineering roles securing complex systems and data.
• Strong knowledge of security principles, threat modeling, and defensive security practices.
• Experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, vulnerability scanning, and encryption technologies.
• Familiarity with NIST, ISO 27001, and CMMC frameworks.
• Ability to collaborate with software engineers on secure system design.
• U.S. Person status is required, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, or qualifying asylum or refugee status.

Nice to have

• Experience in aviation, aerospace, or with DoD customers.
• Familiarity with zero trust architectures or advanced security approaches.
• Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH.
• Passion for improving air travel efficiency and safety.
