Principal Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Redmond, Washington, United States; 3 days per week in-office

Salary: USD $142,800–$274,800 per year across the U.S.; USD $188,000–$304,200 per year in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.

What you will do

• Own the architecture and technical direction of the platform used to evaluate agent performance and security readiness.
• Design and optimize distributed systems, scalable algorithms, attack-simulation harnesses, agent orchestration services, and telemetry pipelines.
• Validate defensive and offensive agent systems under adversarial conditions and drive solutions to complex technical weaknesses.
• Build APIs, tooling, and developer experiences for onboarding agents, running threat scenarios, and creating security-readiness gates.
• Turn evaluation results into engineering insights and decisions that improve agent-based defense outcomes.
• Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and align work across applied science, threat research, product, and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
• Professional coding experience in C, C++, C#, or Python.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
• Ability to work from Redmond, Washington, with in-office attendance 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and 8+ years of experience, or bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience.
• Experience building platforms for large language model-based or agentic systems, including orchestration frameworks, tool use, evaluation harnesses, or machine learning infrastructure.
• Cybersecurity experience in detection and response, security operations, threat intelligence, red teaming, AI safety, abuse or fraud prevention, or risk.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, high-throughput telemetry pipelines, or workflow orchestration engines.
