Sr. Staff Engineer, GNC - BlueSky (GNC)

Location: Remote; ability to obtain a SECRET clearance required

Salary: $173,000–$250,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular full-time employees

What you will do

• Research and develop state-of-the-art guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for a blue-sky aircraft project.
• Model vehicle dynamics and design, tune, and optimize flight-control systems.
• Use simulation and real-world testing to evaluate control-system performance.
• Work in an agile engineering team grounded in first-principles analysis.
• Push the boundaries of high-performance flight and aircraft autonomy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering, focused on control systems, or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, 6 years with a master’s degree, or 4 years with a PhD.
• Production experience with C++ and practical experience with Matlab and Simulink.
• Expert knowledge of aircraft dynamics, control, stability, and handling qualities.
• Experience tuning and optimizing control systems in simulation and real-world environments.
• Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline with a control-systems focus.
• Experience with LQR/LQG, adaptive, robust, or model predictive control.
• Experience extracting linear aircraft state-space models from nonlinear equations of motion.
• Experience with servos, inertial navigation, air data, or vision-based navigation systems.
• Familiarity with Kalman filters, system identification, Git, and continuous integration and delivery.
