Senior Software Engineer - FDE (AI)

Salary: USD $119,800–$234,700 per year across the United States; USD $160,200–$261,000 per year in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and operate secure, reliable, scalable production software and services.
• Partner with customers and stakeholders to clarify requirements, define success metrics, and translate business needs into technical designs.
• Drive engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation, security, and compliance.
• Prototype quickly, iterate on feedback, and deliver maintainable solutions that meet quality and performance goals.
• Build reusable components, reference implementations, and engineering patterns for other teams and engagements.
• Lead technical workstreams, align stakeholders, and drive execution across engineering, data science, product, design, and security.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with one or more of C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Must be able to work in the United States; Microsoft cannot sponsor a work visa for this role.
• Experience delivering solutions end-to-end with customers or internal stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and 6+ years of experience, or bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience.
• Experience designing, deploying, and operating AI or LLM-based solutions, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented approaches, model tuning, evaluation, data quality, performance monitoring, and cloud AI platforms.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
