Scientific Director (Diabetes Research)

Location: Lexington, Massachusetts, United States. The role requires 10–20% overnight travel.

Salary: $200,000–$290,000 base compensation per year, plus eligibility for a performance-based company bonus and potential long-term incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Shape strategic direction and advance disease biology insights across the Diabetes Therapeutic Area.
• Provide biological leadership for portfolio strategy, pipeline decisions, and research priorities.
• Connect early research, translational science, and development strategy to advance the diabetes pipeline.
• Interpret translational and clinical insights and translate complex biology into actionable direction.
• Collaborate with therapeutic-area leadership, medical directors, clinical strategy teams, computational drug discovery, translational science, and global R&D partners.
• Build relationships with key opinion leaders, academic institutions, industry collaborators, and external innovation partners.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of diabetes disease biology and expertise in small-molecule drug discovery.
• Ability to provide strategic scientific judgment and lead cross-functional collaboration in a global matrix organization.
• Ability to connect human biology and translational relevance with therapeutic and development priorities.
• Experience translating complex scientific concepts into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Doctorate, PhD, or MD-level scientific background is expected based on the position requirements.
• The role is an individual contributor position with no direct or dotted-line reports.

Nice to have

• Experience with siRNA or other nucleic acid-based modalities.
• Established relationships in diabetes, cardiometabolic, or pancreas biology.
• Experience participating in European and US-based consortia and academic partnerships.
