TL;DR
Safeguards and Security Lead (Nuclear): Establishing and leading safeguards, physical security, access-control, and nuclear material security programs for microreactor construction, testing, and operations with an accent on threat-informed controls, DOE authorization requirements, and nuclear material accountability. Focus on coordinating incident response, insider-threat mitigation, security assessments, law-enforcement interfaces, and decisive protection measures across Idaho Falls and Austin facilities.

Location: On-site in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with travel to the Austin, Texas facilities as needed

What you will do

  • Lead safeguards, physical security, access-control, and nuclear material security programs for Idaho Falls activities covering construction, testing, and operations.
  • Develop graded physical-protection measures for site boundaries, protected areas, buildings, vital equipment, control rooms, storage, and nuclear material.
  • Manage access authorization, badging, visitor control, escorting, credentials, alarm response, and coordination with security forces.
  • Establish requirements for nuclear material receipt, storage, movement, inventory, anomaly response, and transfer.
  • Develop response plans for intrusion, theft, diversion, sabotage, insider threats, missing material, and security-system degradation.
  • Conduct drills, assessments, investigations, performance tests, and corrective-action follow-up while coordinating with DOE, laboratories, regulators, law enforcement, and emergency responders.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. Person status is required.
  • On-site work in Idaho Falls, Idaho is required.
  • Six or more years of progressively responsible experience in nuclear safeguards, physical security, nuclear material control and accountability, law enforcement, military security, or high-consequence infrastructure protection.
  • Two or more years leading security or safeguards at a commercial nuclear plant, DOE facility, national laboratory, nuclear-fuel-cycle facility, or comparable high-security operation.
  • Experience with physical protection, insider-threat mitigation, contingency planning, vulnerability assessment, incident response, investigations, and security performance testing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required DOE or government security clearance, access authorization, and fitness-for-duty status. Availability for security events, critical tests, nights, weekends, and rotating on-call coverage is required.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in security management, criminal justice, nuclear technology, engineering, physical science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of DOE safeguards and security directives and relevant NRC physical-protection and material-control requirements.
