Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity. USD salary ranges apply only to U.S.-based positions; international salaries are set according to the local market.

What you will do

• Embed with strategic customers during time-boxed engagements, typically lasting 1–3 months, with defined scope, milestones, and exit criteria.
• Design, prototype, build, debug, and harden workflows in customer environments using Perplexity Computer and adjacent tooling.
• Own customer engagements end-to-end, including expectations management, executive communication, working sessions, risk management, and deployment outcomes.
• Identify high-leverage use cases and deliver solutions that create measurable customer impact.
• Turn deployments into reusable skills, connectors, workflow templates, and reference implementations.
• Partner with Sales and Customer Success on scoping, pre-sales technical validation, and expansion opportunities.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a customer-embedded technical role such as forward-deployed engineering, senior solutions engineering, solutions architecture, or technical consulting.
• Proven ability to run customer engagements as projects, including scoping, milestones, status updates, executive communication, risk management, and exit criteria.
• Daily use of frontier LLMs, agents, and coding assistants, with strong judgment about model capabilities and reliability.
• Ability to explain architecture credibly to CIO-level stakeholders while managing execution on the ground.
• Strong autonomy and ability to clarify ambiguous requirements and ship practical solutions without a predefined specification or project manager.

Nice to have

• Experience as an FDE, applied-AI specialist, or deployment strategist at a frontier AI company.
• Sales engineering leadership at an enterprise SaaS or infrastructure company, with ownership of the technical outcome of $1M+ deals.
• Solutions architecture experience in a strong services organization.
• Experience deploying agents, RAG systems, or multi-step LLM workflows in regulated or complex enterprise environments.
• Startup or small-team experience with end-to-end ownership of customer projects.
