AI-Native Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Arlington, Virginia, with at least 3 days per week in the office. Applicants must currently possess an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Salary: $114,000–$231,000 per year, with ranges varying by experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

• Use generative AI tools, LLM copilots, autonomous coding agents, and AI test generators throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Develop and integrate AI models and services into mission-critical Department of War software environments.
• Build intelligent data processing and NLP pipelines, along with AI-enabled dashboards, interfaces, and insights.
• Prototype and evaluate emerging AI developer tools, agent frameworks, and automated testing solutions.
• Define AI-augmented engineering standards, patterns, and best practices, and share techniques that improve productivity and software quality.
• Mentor engineering teams and collaborate with software, systems, security, compliance, program management, and chief engineering stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5–7 years of full-time professional experience.
• Daily experience with generative AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium, ChatGPT, or Claude.
• Experience using LLMs for code generation, debugging, test generation, documentation automation, and production workflow integration.
• Knowledge of AI concepts, prompt workflows, secure software development, AI-specific security risks, and compliance in sensitive or classified environments.
• Ability to define requirements, scope engineering solutions, evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance, and communicate recommendations clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-augmented developer tooling, LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, or other LLM orchestration frameworks.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities into DevSecOps pipelines or operating self-hosted LLMs in secure environments.
• Proficiency with Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, Swarm, virtual machines, or similar infrastructure technologies.
• Experience with complex defense systems, including U.S. Navy or U.S. Army tactical command-and-control or sensor systems.
• Experience working with program managers and chief engineers to document and manage systems and software requirements.
