Linguist III (AI/NLP)

Location: Remote within the United States; Daly City, California

Salary: $50–$55 per hour on W2

What you will do

• Perform linguistic analyses on large datasets and conduct error analysis of AI model outputs.
• Identify frequent and severe error categories and compare vendor deliveries to provide actionable feedback.
• Write and revise guidelines for human annotation, translation, and other AI projects.
• Conduct typological, sociolinguistic, and NLP-adjacent literature research across various languages.
• Analyze toxic language, hate speech, gender bias, and cultural bias in multilingual Responsible AI settings.
• Communicate linguistic findings to engineers, research scientists, and native speakers.

Requirements

• PhD in Linguistics required.
• Near-native or native bilingual proficiency in a Dravidian language and professional fluency in an Indo-Aryan language required.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in business and research contexts.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform under pressure.
• Experience collaborating with machine learning, NLP, software engineering, or data science teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with fieldwork, corpus linguistics, and basic NLP techniques.
• Knowledge of international language-classification standards.
• Experience contributing to research papers.
• Additional coding languages for data analysis.
