TL;DR

Staff Software Developer - Diagnostics Infrastructure (C++/UDS): Architecting diagnostic infrastructure software applications and core diagnostic libraries for the Autonomous Vehicle Integrity Platform, with an accent on UDS/DoIP management, integration readiness, and high-quality delivery through testing and code reviews. Focus on designing next-generation diagnostic software architecture, troubleshooting complex vehicle communication issues using logs and Wireshark, and mentoring developers while coordinating with cross-functional platform teams.

Location: Hybrid — report to Markham or Oshawa office three times per week (minimum).

What you will do

  • Lead diagnostic infrastructure software architecture development for UDS and DTC management.
  • Own diagnostic application and library strategy for in-house diagnostic software, partnering with cross-functional teams.
  • Create architecture diagrams and technical execution plans; deliver solutions that meet GM requirements and specifications.
  • Ensure software quality via unit testing, thorough code reviews, and continuous integration check-ins.
  • Review and approve Engineering Change Requests impacting GM Autonomous Vehicle Platform diagnostics globally.
  • Act as technical lead: mentor developers, support manufacturing/service diagnostic teams, and resolve production diagnostic issues using communication logs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of software design and development experience focused on diagnostic software applications and diagnostic protocols (UDS).
  • Strong C++ expertise (and other OOP languages such as Python).
  • Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic serial data protocols: UDS (ISO-14229) and DoIP (ISO-13400).
  • Experience reading vehicle communication logs (Ethernet bus loggers) and using Wireshark.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and communicate effectively in a team environment.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Embedded software development experience on System-on-Chips (SoCs) and familiarity with embedded Linux (e.g., Yocto).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with ISO-26262 and vehicle Ethernet networking.
