Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Account Management)

Location: Remote Canada; candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Base pay: CAD $153,000–$213,000 per year.

What you will do

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guiding engineers through ambiguous and open-ended problems.
• Build backend orchestration layers supporting authentication, verification, and fraud journeys across web and mobile surfaces.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
• Operate and improve highly available systems by creating metrics, monitoring services, escalating incidents, and supporting on-call work.
• Set and improve code review and design standards while promoting engineering quality and ownership.
• Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and technical leadership.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience developing highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of web and mobile layers, including fraud prevention and backend-for-frontend patterns.
• Ability to define technical plans for significant features or system components and produce clear, extensible code.
• Experience making major changes safely in large codebases using appropriate tools and engineering practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
