Staff Frontend Software Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for the AI Products frontend architecture, including component systems, state management, and rendering strategies.
• Design and build the frontend for AI SRE, Observe’s flagship AI-powered production troubleshooting product.
• Create agentic AI interfaces for multi-step reasoning, tool-use results, and real-time streaming responses.
• Develop conversational Slack surfaces and define the technical strategy for future platform integrations.
• Contribute to CLI tooling, LLM evaluation pipelines, MCP integrations, and extensible agent architectures.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with product and design on roadmap and user experience decisions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 6 years of frontend engineering on production products at scale.
• Expert-level TypeScript proficiency and deep experience building complex interactive web applications.
• Production experience with agentic AI systems, streaming workflows, and tool-use SDKs such as the Vercel AI SDK, Anthropic Agent SDK, or LangGraph.
• Strong server-side Node.js experience with APIs, middleware, and backend services.
• Experience implementing or consuming Model Context Protocol servers and designing extensible tool interfaces.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture decisions, RFCs or design documents, mentoring, and product-focused collaboration; a BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building production evaluation pipelines for LLM-powered features.
• Experience with Bun, developer platforms, internal tools, or productivity infrastructure.
• Open-source contributions to AI tooling, observability, or developer experience projects.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, logs, metrics, traces, APM, or Observe’s platform.
