Generator Expert, Commissioning (AI Data Centers)

Location: Remote, USA, with on-site commissioning work and travel to data center facilities as needed

What you will do

• Own generator commissioning across mechanical, electrical, and controls scopes from delivery through turnover to operations.
• Act as the generator subject matter expert and technical interface for vendors, reviewing work and resolving field issues.
• Coordinate Project Managers, Engineering, vendors, and contractors to sequence site activities and maintain progress.
• Manage parts procurement, fuel coordination, generator testing, startup activities, troubleshooting, and root-cause resolution.
• Prepare commissioning records, punch lists, turnover packages, and other technical documentation.
• Uphold site safety standards and communicate generator status and risks to leadership and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with electrical systems, mechanical systems, generators, or data center and mission-critical facility operations.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, including identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
• Strong technical communication and documentation skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, holidays, and on-call rotations.
• Ability to travel to data center sites and perform physical work on ladders, elevated surfaces, stairs, and around equipment requiring ear protection.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of data center operations, electrical systems, or generator and power-generation experience.
• Experience with large-bore diesel generators, commissioning, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance programs.
• Familiarity with building management systems and electrical power monitoring systems.
• Associate's degree or technical certification in electrical, mechanical, or a related field.
• Experience with technical procedures, work instructions, vendor oversight, and contractor management.
