Head, Innovation Accelerator Data Science

Expected salary: $254,400–$472,400 per year, plus a potential discretionary annual bonus.

What you will do

• Lead technical execution across data science, software development, and innovation programs for Roche Product Development.
• Guide architectural decisions and enforce standards for scalability, performance, reliability, compliance, reuse, and modularity.
• Oversee delivery quality, technical risk, project velocity, governance, resource planning, and progress across multiple innovation workstreams.
• Translate innovation opportunities into feasible solutions with internal Roche teams and external collaborators.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team, including hiring, workforce planning, performance management, mentoring, and succession planning.
• Influence senior stakeholders and functional leadership to secure alignment, resources, and sponsorship for technical priorities.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 15+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, data science, or technical innovation, ideally in R&D or regulated environments, including 4+ years managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Deep expertise in modern data and software development technologies, architecture, version control, testing, collaborative coding, and high-performance computing.
• Proficiency with Python or R and machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, or PyTorch; strong knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning, statistical modeling, and experimental design.
• Experience taking technology from prototyping to scaled implementation, managing capacity and competing priorities, and applying agile or DevOps practices.
• Role location: South San Francisco, California, United States; relocation benefits are not available.

Nice to have

• Experience in pharma, life sciences, healthtech, regulated product development, or compliance-driven environments.
• Expertise in areas such as epidemiology, Bayesian statistics, decision theory, clinical outcomes research, interpretable machine learning, knowledge graphs, probabilistic programming, or innovative clinical trial designs.
• Experience assessing emerging technologies such as GenAI, MLOps, and cloud platforms, or applying innovation frameworks such as lean startup and dual-track agile.
