Commercial & Contracts Manager (Defence)

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, with regular travel to HMAS Waterhen. Interstate candidates may be considered, but relocation to Sydney will be required.

What you will do

• Oversee commercial aspects of project contracts and provide accurate commercial documentation throughout delivery.
• Support procurement and commercial activities across pre-bid, bid, delivery, and close-out phases.
• Manage subcontractor engagement, due diligence, performance, and related negotiations.
• Coordinate with operations, finance, and project controls to maintain commercial alignment.
• Lead commercial risk management covering finance, insurance, estimating, and compliance.
• Manage intellectual property, software rights, technical data, contract reviews, and client reporting, serving as the first point of contact for ITAR and export control compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
• Defence commercial management experience in industry or government, including knowledge of ASDEFCON.
• Familiarity with ITAR and export control compliance.
• Experience with financial planning, pricing, billing, contract administration, spreadsheet modelling, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong negotiation, communication, relationship-building, personnel management, and team leadership skills.
• Active Negative Vetting 1 Defence Security Clearance is required; applicants must hold Baseline Clearance or above.

Nice to have

• Experience with SAP or Microsoft Dynamics.
