Staff Software Engineer (Imaging ML)

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States; in-person hybrid schedule with three days per week onsite

Salary: $219,000–$233,000 annual base salary for successful US-based applicants, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus and equity incentive plan.

What you will do

• Define and expand computer vision and ML infrastructure across the full imaging data lifecycle.
• Design, develop, and scale platform capabilities for ML-powered high-content imaging screens.
• Build interactive tools for data exploration, quality assessment, and visualization.
• Scale and harden image-processing and ML workflows capable of processing millions of images per day.
• Establish practices for data integrity, lineage tracking, reproducibility, and observability.
• Partner with lab scientists, ML scientists, and microscopy teams while mentoring engineers and owning end-to-end projects.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience building and operating production-grade software and high-throughput data pipelines, primarily in Python.
• Experience designing, building, and deploying scientific computing pipelines, visualizations, and quality-control processes for large-scale imaging or similarly high-dimensional datasets.
• Hands-on experience with a Python-first ML stack and distributed computing tools such as PyTorch, Lightning, Ray, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Argo, Airflow, or redun.
• Track record of owning complex systems from architecture through production operation.
• Ability to translate research needs into practical, scalable software and mentor other engineers.
