Location: Hybrid or remote in the United States; candidates near Utica/Rome, New York, work onsite 20% of the week, while remote candidates may travel to the area quarterly or more often. The role also requires approximately 5%–10% travel to customer and client sites. Only U.S. citizens are eligible due to the security clearance requirement.
Salary: $125,000–$175,000 annually.

What you will do
- Design, develop, and deploy multimodal machine learning architectures and production AI capabilities.
- Build agentic systems on large language models and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines grounded in authoritative data.
- Define and run evaluations for model and agent behavior, including production benchmarks, tracing, and observability.
- Optimize model inference for cloud, edge, and denied, degraded, intermittent, and limited-bandwidth environments.
- Integrate foundation models, machine learning libraries, agent frameworks, data pipelines, and cloud architectures into software products.
- Lead technical work, mentor junior staff, collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders, and contribute to testing, delivery, customer support, and proposal development.
Requirements
- At least three years of professional experience in machine learning or AI systems engineering, including one year building production applications with large language or foundation models.
- Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a related field; a relevant bachelor’s degree with seven or more years of experience may substitute. A Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
- Strong Python skills, including asynchronous programming, modern packaging, dependency management, and pytest-based automated testing.
- Experience with PyTorch, Hugging Face, LLM application development, agentic frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, and model evaluation.
- Experience with Kubernetes or Docker, GPU scheduling, cloud platforms, Linux, CI/CD, model serving, and deployment to edge or resource-constrained environments.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and be eligible to obtain and maintain at least Top Secret clearance.
Nice to have
- Experience with DoD cloud and software factory environments, AWS GovCloud, ATO, RMF, IL4/IL5, or federal AI governance.
- Knowledge of distributed training frameworks, knowledge graphs, ontologies, RDF, or GraphRAG.
- Full-stack development experience with Node, React, React Native, or Django.
- Experience with Go, Java, C++, open-source AI/ML projects, or applied AI research publications.

Hiring process
