2027 Winter Co-Ops - Software Development - Demonware (Vancouver) (Python/C++/Java): Building multiplayer features, backend systems, distributed services, data platforms, and reliability tooling for large-scale online game infrastructure with an accent on scalable systems, automation, and data processing. Focus on designing APIs and microservices, solving root-cause and reliability challenges, and supporting Kubernetes-based platforms.

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; onsite with a hybrid schedule requiring 4 days per week in the office. A relocation package may be available depending on eligibility.

Salary: 65,000 CAD annually. A separate base pay range of 45,202.50–95,655.00 CAD annually is also listed for British Columbia.

Demonware is an hirify.global studio providing online and data services for major game franchises, including Call of Duty and Crash Bandicoot.

What you will do

  • Build multiplayer features, backend systems, distributed services, data platforms, APIs, and microservices.
  • Develop batch and streaming data systems for high-volume analytics and real-time insights.
  • Work with Kubernetes infrastructure, automation frameworks, CI/CD tooling, and scalable data pipelines.
  • Perform root cause analysis and improve reliability, performance, maintainability, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate in design discussions and across engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program, with expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2029.
  • Available for a 7-month, in-person co-op starting January 2027.
  • Strong knowledge of Python, C++, Java, or, for data engineering, Kotlin.
  • Understanding of algorithms, data structures, databases, SQL, and networking fundamentals including TCP, UDP, and HTTP.
  • Familiarity with Linux or Unix environments and Git or similar source control systems.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills; resume and transcript required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with MySQL, distributed systems, data pipelines, streaming architectures, ETL frameworks, or cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, Airflow, CI/CD, observability, security, and scalability concepts.
  • Experience building RESTful services or web applications.
  • Personal projects, open-source contributions, programming hobbies, or notable computer science assignments.
