Software Engineer, Associate - NASA

Location: Based out of Annapolis, Maryland, USA; remote/telework available with quarterly travel to Annapolis for three days for PI Planning

What you will do

• Develop and support NASA Earthdata Search Client and Common Metadata Repository tools.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from user story generation through design, development, automated testing, and operational support.
• Build tools that help scientists and students discover, transform, update, and improve Earth science data.
• Lead product update deployments, identify production issues, and help construct scalable architecture.
• Propose feature ideas, process improvements, and tooling enhancements while sharing industry best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 0–3 years of software development experience.
• Experience with cloud environments, preferably AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, and API Gateway.
• Proficiency with TypeScript, JavaScript, Node, React, and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch for search and data operations.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, Agile/Scrum, and software development lifecycle practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial or GIS data formats and tools such as GeoJSON, KML, ArcGIS, or QGIS.
• Familiarity with machine learning and AI concepts.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of CloudWatch, Datadog, or Prometheus.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems or technical knowledge-sharing sessions.
