Director, Product Design (AI)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid with an in-office requirement on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Base salary: $275,000–$350,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead the day-to-day operations of the Product Design organization and ensure work is aligned, prioritized, and delivered to a high standard.
• Manage, mentor, develop, recruit, hire, and onboard product designers.
• Shape and elevate the customer journey and solve complex product and interaction challenges.
• Work hands-on with designers through whiteboarding, alternative exploration, work-in-progress reviews, and design feedback.
• Partner closely with Product and Engineering on technically sophisticated products and implementation details.
• Evolve design practices, workflows, quality standards, and team culture in a high-growth environment.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading product design teams within high-growth technology companies.
• Proven ability to balance people leadership with meaningful hands-on product design contribution.
• Portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft, interaction design, product thinking, and systems thinking.
• Experience partnering with Product and Engineering and leading cross-functional product development.
• Strong communication, coaching, stakeholder management, design judgment, and technical fluency.
• Experience simplifying complex technical products into elegant, approachable user experiences.

Nice to have

• Experience designing developer tools, technical products, or software creation platforms.
• Experience building AI-powered products or AI-native workflows.
• Coding experience or strong technical curiosity.
• Experience growing design teams in startup or scale-up environments.
• Active use of AI throughout the design process.
