Data Center Energy Lead, EMEA (AI Infrastructure)

Location: London, UK; role based anywhere in the EU. Hybrid policy requires staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office attendance.

Annual salary: £1–£1 GBP.

What you will do

• Develop grid-connected and behind-the-meter energy deployment approaches that accelerate energization while maintaining social license.
• Lead energy procurement and market strategy to secure multi-hundred-megawatt capacity across EU wholesale electricity markets and national capacity mechanisms.
• Build relationships with TSOs, DSOs, national regulators, ACER, policymakers, utilities, and critical equipment vendors across European jurisdictions.
• Develop energy market and policy strategies for AI compute facilities, including monitoring EU network codes, national grid codes, and regulatory developments.
• Partner with engineering and delivery teams to translate market dynamics and network constraints into capacity acceleration strategies aligned with project timelines.
• Develop market intelligence and structure PPAs, network-use-of-system arrangements, and behind-the-meter solutions for Anthropic’s European data-centre portfolio.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in energy procurement, utility development, or power markets for large-scale infrastructure projects, with substantial exposure to European energy markets across multiple jurisdictions.
• Deep expertise in EU electricity markets, including day-ahead, intraday, and balancing markets; national capacity mechanisms; network connection processes; and transmission system planning.
• Experience securing 100+ MW of power capacity and navigating network connection agreements, PPAs, or other offtake structures in Europe.
• Proficiency in analysing energy market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, EU network codes, national grid codes, jurisdictional instruments, and grid constraints.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working with TSOs, DSOs, national regulators, ACER, policymakers, and critical equipment vendors.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex grid and regulatory dynamics into actionable strategies for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice to have

• Energy procurement experience for data centres, high-performance computing, or AI/ML infrastructure.
• Familiarity with hyperscale infrastructure requirements and the power demands of large-scale AI training and inference workloads.
• Experience in regulatory affairs, energy policy advocacy, or engagement with national regulators, TSOs, ACER, ENTSO-E, the European Commission DG ENER, and national energy ministries.
• Background in transmission planning, grid connection studies, grid code compliance, connection agreements, or grid capacity analysis.
• Understanding of battery energy storage systems, demand response, virtual power plants, and distributed energy resources.
• Track record of structuring solutions for grid constraints and compressed timelines in competitive power markets, including EU renewables acceleration areas and congested bidding zones.
