Medical Billing Manager (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Directly manage, mentor, and develop the medical billing team while setting KPIs and conducting performance reviews.
• Oversee end-to-end billing and collections across multiple states, including Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payer requirements.
• Manage high claim volumes, identify process bottlenecks, reduce denial rates, and improve clean claim rates.
• Design, document, and implement scalable billing workflows and SOPs for new state launches and market expansion.
• Partner with Clinical, Care Operations, and Expansion to improve documentation, intake-to-billing workflows, regulatory readiness, and payer operations.
• Track and report DSO, aging buckets, denial trends, and other revenue cycle metrics to executive leadership.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of medical billing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Experience managing multi-state billing operations and navigating state-specific regulations and payer landscapes.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume claims environment, including electronic health records, clearinghouses, and complex denials.
• Advanced proficiency with medical billing software, EHR/EMR systems, clearinghouses such as Waystar or Availity, and Excel/data analysis.
• Ability to build scalable SOPs, translate billing requirements for clinical and operations stakeholders, and use data to investigate denial causes.
• Remote work is tied to US healthcare operations, including US payer regulations and benefits such as 401(k), HSA, and FSA.

Nice to have

• Home Health, Hospice, or Community-Based Care billing experience.
• Startup or fast-growing healthcare company experience, especially launching new markets or states.
