Engineer I, Manufacturing Engineer

Location: San Luis Obispo, California, United States

Salary: $85,000–$90,000 per year, depending on skills and experience.

What you will do

• Evaluate and improve manufacturing processes, product flow, part quality, first-pass yields, capacity, cost, and lead time.
• Create and revise part instructions, routings, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and test specifications; train production personnel.
• Lead Lean Six Sigma, 6S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve product and system quality.
• Develop equipment replacement and addition ROI analyses, assembly techniques, manufacturing cost-reduction plans, fixtures, and optimized facility layouts.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, manufacturing managers, and new product development teams on validation, qualification, and release-to-manufacturing activities.
• Maintain product, process, and operating-system audits and coordinate corrective actions to meet customer and internal quality requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• Lean Manufacturing certification or relevant experience.
• Experience creating routings, work instructions, and ECR/ECO documentation.
• Strong SAP or equivalent ERP experience, such as Oracle or PeopleSoft.
• Experience with control systems documentation, intermediate Excel skills, modeling, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to identify quality defects visually.
