TL;DR
Operations Engineer (Manufacturing): Optimizing manufacturing and packaging processes, equipment, raw materials, and technical documentation with an accent on process capability, quality, reliability, and cross-functional improvement. Focus on identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, applying Lean and PDCA methods, and improving production performance in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Location: Onsite in Opelika, Alabama, United States. Frequent work is required in the pilot plant and production facilities.

Salary: $80,000–$133,000 annual national target base pay. For candidates in California and the New York metro area: $88,000–$146,000. Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus and benefits.

What you will do

  • Optimize manufacturing and packaging processes, equipment, raw materials, components, and product specifications.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for daily process issues and lead cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
  • Research and develop packaging components and raw materials for new equipment and product extensions.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, investigate non-conformance reports and customer complaints, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical documents, validation protocols, SOPs, batch records, and project reports.
  • Analyze process and product data, improve process capability and reliability, and train technical, product development, and manufacturing staff.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Four to five years of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably packaging.
  • Knowledge of product and process development, manufacturing and packaging equipment, laboratory techniques, and regulatory requirements.
  • Foundation in chemistry, mathematics, pharmaceutics, and/or food science, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, develop plans, make recommendations, and use data-collection devices and instrumentation.
  • Must be able to work safely in a pilot plant, production, and office environment; occasional lifting of up to 35 lb may be required.

Nice to have

  • Certified Packaging Professional certification.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Design of Experiment, or Quality by Design experience.
