Site Reliability Engineering, Technical Lead Manager

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid role

Base salary: $298,000–$368,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentives, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the SRE team responsible for Waymo’s release and pipeline infrastructure.
• Set strategy and execute improvements for observability, incident management, capacity planning, and production reliability.
• Organize and participate in on-call rotations responding to software and field-driving issues.
• Harden critical release processes, develop playbooks, improve on-call metrics, and drive post-mitigation workstreams.
• Lead analysis and response to novel, rare, or unexpected events during the development and release cycle.
• Partner across the Onboard, Eval, and Simulator organizations on engineering practices, software architecture, robustness, and debuggability.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience leading large-scale production software systems, especially machine learning systems.
• 5+ years of experience as an organizational leader managing teams and partnering with other organizational leaders.
• Experience organizing and running on-call rotations.
• Strong influence without authority, collaboration, organizational awareness, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience leading hybrid hardware/software production systems.
• Experience leading teams working on modern deep machine learning and large-scale models.
• Experience driving change in engineering organizations of more than 1,000 people.
