Principal Tech Lead Manager (Data Platform & Reliability Engineering)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; full-time, in-office work five days per week.

Salary: $242,693–$275,400 USD annual base salary, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the technical architecture and operational standards for the data platform, including high-throughput PostgreSQL clusters and an in-house identity trust graph database.
• Implement database clustering, replication, failover, disaster recovery, automated provisioning, and zero-downtime migrations.
• Optimize query latency, throughput, scalability, and cross-region availability while guiding relational and graph data model design.
• Lead roadmap execution, operational prioritization, incident response, automation, and technical debt reduction.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain database, infrastructure, and platform engineers while conducting one-to-ones, performance reviews, and career development.
• Partner with Security, Privacy, and Compliance teams on data governance, lineage, access controls, FedRAMP, NIST, and GDPR compliance, while promoting AI-enabled operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience, including at least 3 years in engineering management or a tech lead manager role leading teams of 5–10+ engineers.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, site reliability engineering, or platform engineering.
• Deep hands-on experience architecting, managing, tuning, and maintaining highly available production PostgreSQL clusters at scale.
• Strong knowledge of production SLAs/SLOs, automated alerting, incident response, and data reliability engineering.
• Strong experience with at least one major cloud platform, preferably AWS, plus Kubernetes, Terraform, and Helm.

Nice to have

• Experience leading software development or feature teams building backend APIs, business logic, or customer-facing applications.
• Graph database experience with technologies such as Neo4j, Amazon Neptune, or custom graph layers.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming pipelines using Kafka or Kinesis.
• Experience in regulated FinTech, HealthTech, or GovTech environments handling sensitive personal data.
• Exceptional communication skills for translating infrastructure and reliability needs for product teams and executives.
