Senior Data Engineer (Finance)

Location: New York City or San Francisco, United States

Salary: $170,000–$260,000 annual base pay in San Francisco; compensation outside San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location. Total compensation may include benefits, equity, and bonus or variable pay.

What you will do

• Own reliable pipelines bringing billing, usage, and contract data into the warehouse, including metered usage across multiple products.
• Diagnose and resolve data quality and freshness issues at the source.
• Design and maintain dbt models and data models for revenue recognition, margin analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
• Build datasets and semantic models powering Finance dashboards, planning, forecasting, and close processes.
• Partner with FP&A, Accounting, and Revenue stakeholders to translate business questions into durable data models and enable self-service reporting.
• Set engineering, testing, documentation, and code review standards while mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a closely related field, with end-to-end ownership of production data pipelines.
• Strong SQL and Python skills with experience writing production-grade, testable code.
• Hands-on experience with dbt or a comparable transformation framework, dimensional or data modeling, modern ELT/ETL workflows, and orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster.
• Direct Finance data experience, ideally involving usage-based billing, revenue recognition, financial close, or forecasting metrics.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into technical specifications, communicate technical trade-offs, and partner with non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience making architecture decisions independently and working with reconciliation, versioning, lineage, accuracy, and auditability standards.
