Data Engineer

Location: Fully remote; travel to Los Angeles as needed, usually quarterly, plus offsites

Salary: $174,000–$230,000 base salary per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Own and operate the data warehouse, data pipelines, and transformation layer.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable pipelines ingesting data from the platform and third-party sources.
• Partner with data scientists and analysts to deliver clean, documented datasets and improve query performance.
• Assess, prioritize, and modernize existing data systems and legacy infrastructure.
• Implement data quality monitoring, alerting, and documentation practices.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional data engineering experience, ideally in a high-growth startup or fast-moving team.
• Hands-on experience with BigQuery or a comparable cloud data warehouse, dbt, and Dagster or Airflow.
• Strong SQL skills and fluency in Golang, Python, or another common data engineering language.
• Experience iteratively improving and modernizing inherited data systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and business-oriented teams.

Nice to have

• Experience bringing data infrastructure in-house from an outsourced or contractor model.
• Familiarity with data observability tools.
• Experience supporting data science functions or ML feature pipelines.
