Business Controls, Advisor (Utilities)

Location: Hybrid in Irwindale, California, US; employees are generally required to work and reside in California. The role requires reporting to an SCE facility on set days and working remotely on the remaining days.

Salary: $129,200–$193,700 per year

What you will do

• Review monitoring-plan gaps and partner with compliance leads to strengthen operational controls and reduce risk.
• Implement business-controls policies, standards, and operating procedures.
• Optimize internal controls, assess operational effectiveness, and improve reporting.
• Develop and maintain complex financial models for financings and partnerships, including due-diligence support.
• Monitor actual performance against budgets, recommend forecast adjustments, and translate financial data into actionable strategies.
• Participate in emergency response and business-continuity efforts, including an on-call Incident Management Team rotation approximately every four to six weeks.

Requirements

• Seven or more years of experience implementing policies, processes, controls, and system improvements.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, communication, project-management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to identify control gaps, evaluate business risks, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Experience developing executive-level reports, presentations, dashboards, and performance metrics.
• Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, manage complex issues independently, and balance strategic thinking with execution.
• Ability to work and reside in California and report to an SCE facility as required by the hybrid work mode.

Nice to have

• Experience in business controls, SOX, risk management, compliance, audit, governance, quality assurance, or operational excellence.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, and reporting and collaboration tools.
• Utility-industry experience.
