TL;DR
Mental Health Clinician - Oakwood School (Youth Mental Health): Providing evidence-based, short- to medium-term clinical interventions and coordinated support for young people in an alternative secondary school with an accent on trauma-informed engagement, risk assessment, and care planning. Location: School-based role at Oakwood College in Pakenham, Victoria, Australia; flexibility to take leave or work from headspace Dandenong during school holidays.

Company

Provides early-intervention mental health services for young people aged 12–25 across Australian communities, online and by phone, through vocational services and schools.

What you will do

  • Build trusted relationships with young people to support wellbeing and engagement in school.
  • Provide evidence-based clinical support through short- to medium-term interventions.
  • Encourage early help-seeking through proactive engagement and a visible presence within the school.
  • Collaborate with educators and care teams to create safe and supportive learning environments.
  • Support young people and families through care planning, referrals, and coordinated support pathways.
  • Contribute to a trauma-informed culture focused on safety, inclusion, and connection.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling.
  • Registration or eligibility for membership with AHPRA, AASW, ACA, or PACFA.
  • Strong engagement and relationship-building skills with young people, including those disengaged from education, employment, or social activities.
  • Advanced understanding of mental health, trauma, and issues affecting young people and families.
  • Confidence applying CBT, DBT, ACT, or similar therapeutic approaches.
  • Experience in case management or care coordination and a current driver’s licence.

Nice to have

  • Experience in alternative education or school-based settings.
  • Experience supporting marginalised young people.
  • A proactive, engaging, and collaborative approach to supporting the whole school community.
