Senior Staff Performance Engineer (C++/Firefox)

Location: Remote Canada

Hiring range: CAD 165,000–220,000 annually for Canada Tier 1 locations; CAD 149,000–199,000 annually for Canada Tier 2 locations.

What you will do

• Write code and tests, build prototypes, and investigate performance bottlenecks across the Firefox codebase.
• Use C++, JavaScript, Kotlin, Rust, and Python to improve browser performance, with emphasis on C++ and JavaScript.
• Debug and analyze performance issues using profiling, measurement, and experiments.
• Educate engineers through code reviews, talks, tooling, and documentation.
• Define and drive actionable next steps from high-level objectives while coordinating performance efforts across engineering teams.
• Shape performance benchmarks, priorities, and long-term strategies for the Performance team and organization.

Requirements

• BS or MS in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, plus 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Advanced programming skills in C++ and working knowledge of JavaScript.
• Experience developing performance-critical software and diagnosing bottlenecks with tools such as VTune or Xperf.
• Experience with multithreading, concurrency, disk I/O, and GPU-related work.
• Proven ability to set team goals, drive them to completion, and align cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for distributed, asynchronous collaboration.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with web standards, Android or Windows application programming, statistics, or modern web browser development.
