Principal Mechanical Designer

Location: Brisbane, Australia; flexible working arrangements include remote working options, with a Brisbane CBD location.

What you will do

• Lead civil and mechanical pipeline design, including above-ground steelwork, pump stations, mechanical plants, and non-process infrastructure.
• Develop mechanical designs for water management infrastructure such as water supply, sewerage, tailings dams, creek diversions, roads, and drainage systems.
• Prepare mechanical layouts, general arrangement drawings, material take-offs, P&IDs, isometric views, construction documentation, and review deliverables.
• Ensure multidisciplinary project drawings comply with statutory, regulatory, technical, and company requirements.
• Provide high-level technical support, review design and drafting documentation, and contribute to design innovation and continuous improvement.
• Support junior designers, client management, business development, and project resourcing.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in a similar mechanical design role, preferably in a consultancy environment.
• Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, an equivalent qualification, or significant experience as a senior mechanical designer.
• Experience producing mechanical design drawings across the full design lifecycle, from prefeasibility through construction.
• Ability to deliver large and complex projects using AutoCAD, Inventor, and/or Navisworks.
• Advanced understanding of engineering principles, project objectives, deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
• Strong knowledge of applicable legislation and technical standards, plus client management and communication skills.
