Data Quality & Annotation Lead (AI Robotics)

Location: San Francisco, CA; in-person work at the San Francisco HQ with regular time at collection sites.

Salary: $100,000–$120,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own and continuously update episode acceptance criteria, rubrics, and auditable quality standards for every task family.
• Take over annotation and episode review, then build scalable workflows and a team to manage the queue.
• Establish and manage a likely Philippines-based remote annotation team with an overnight review turnaround SLA.
• Design sampling-based QA audits, coverage targets, and inter-rater reliability checks.
• Run operator quality scorecards and feedback loops, delivering quality signals to site supervisors within 24 hours.
• Define quality metrics and build operational dashboards while partnering with analytics, research, and engineering.

Requirements

• 3+ years in data operations, annotation or labeling operations, or data-collection QA for ML systems; robotics, autonomy, or teleoperation experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience building quality standards, rubrics, SOPs, and QC workflows from scratch.
• Experience managing remote, offshore, vendor, or BPO annotation and review teams against SLAs.
• Ability to deliver direct quality feedback, handle edge cases, and make pragmatic decisions under ambiguity.
• Data fluency with SQL, BI tools, or AI-assisted reporting, including the ability to own and validate operational metrics.
• Ability to work in person from the San Francisco HQ and regularly visit collection sites.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with imitation learning and robot-learning data.
• Experience scaling annotation or rater teams, including pods, shift leads, and inter-rater reliability programs.
• Experience selecting offshore annotation vendors or establishing direct offshore teams with EOR and timezone-shifted workflows.
• Multi-site operations experience.
