Technical Writer (PostgreSQL)

Location: Remote from anywhere in the world; recommended to work within 4 hours of UTC-2. Flexible hours are coordinated around team syncs and customer meetings.

What you will do

• Create installation, configuration, troubleshooting, how-to, user, man-page, and help-prompt documentation for PostgreSQL products.
• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager, Product Manager, developers, QA, and Product Documentation team.
• Produce clear documentation using text, Markdown, images, and diagrams for audiences with different experience levels.
• Use AI tools to draft, polish, format, and refine technical content.
• Maintain documentation versioning and contribute to a scalable documentation strategy.
• Participate in team ceremonies and support forums, blog content, and upstream documentation when needed.

Requirements

• Graduate-level written English and excellent verbal communication skills.
• 3+ years of experience as a technical writer documenting complex systems and producing precise, user-oriented documentation.
• Experience with markup languages, preferably Markdown, and docs-as-code workflows using Git, Jenkins, HTML, or JavaScript.
• Experience installing and configuring database server software on Linux and comfort with the Linux command line.
• Knowledge of distributed systems or database server development, plus familiarity with Git, GCC, GDB, Jira, and Notion.
• Ability to work autonomously in a globally distributed organization and collaborate across time zones.

Nice to have

• Developer or DevOps background.
• Contributions to PostgreSQL or other open-source projects and active participation in the PostgreSQL community.
• Understanding of PostgreSQL internals, database storage engines, at-rest encryption, and cloud orchestration.
• Experience building automated documentation tests, CI/CD pipelines, and validation tools.
• Conference speaking, technical blogging, or activity on public forums and mailing lists.
