Senior Hardware Engineer, Radar

Location: Pittsburgh, PA; Palo Alto, CA; Detroit, MI; or remote within the United States. Permanent US work authorization is required.

Base salary: $191,920–$287,880 USD annually for positions in California, plus eligibility for annual bonuses and equity compensation.

What you will do

• Lead radar or lidar sensing system development from concept, benchmarking, and sourcing through production launch.
• Define sensor performance targets, requirements, evaluation criteria, and validation plans based on vehicle, perception, and operational design domain needs.
• Drive technical benchmarking, supplier down-selection, technical reviews, data reviews, architecture discussions, and issue resolution.
• Guide tradeoffs involving sensing performance, environmental robustness, packaging, thermal constraints, power, diagnostics, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
• Analyze supplier, bench, track, and vehicle test data; identify performance gaps and root causes; and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate with systems, perception, firmware, validation, vehicle integration, manufacturing, quality, and engineering leadership teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience; equivalent alternatives include a master’s degree with 5+ years or a PhD with 2+ years.
• 8+ years of experience in automotive sensing, with deep hands-on expertise in radar or lidar and technical leadership on complex hardware programs.
• Strong first-principles knowledge of radar or lidar physics, performance, calibration, synchronization, interference, environmental effects, and robustness.
• Strong Python scripting and analysis skills, including NumPy, pandas, Jupyter, log parsing, sensor evaluation, issue trending, and repeatable workflow development.
• Experience with supplier logs, raw captures, decoded outputs, vehicle datasets, Wireshark/PCAP, CAN tools, ROS or rosbag, sensor visualization, CAN/CAN FD, and automotive Ethernet.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. Employment eligibility will be verified at hire.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in electrical engineering, physics, robotics, computer science, or a related field.
• Experience with radar or lidar supplier nomination, sourcing, technical selection, automotive production, or multiple vehicle platforms.
• Familiarity with DV/PV, DFMEA, APQP, PPAP, functional safety, automotive quality processes, perception, tracking, and calibration.
