Director of Engineering for Insurance Product Configuration & Enrollment Platform Core (Golang)

Location: Remote, United States

Salary: $225,000–$280,000 annually, plus equity; starting compensation varies by geographic location, experience, and skills.

What you will do

• Define and drive the technical vision for the insurance product configuration and enrollment platform core.
• Provide architectural guidance across configuration layers, enrollment workflows, and event-sourced domain services.
• Lead cross-team initiatives involving product engineering, infrastructure, data, delivery, underwriting, compliance, and external carrier partners.
• Own delivery commitments, incident posture, service operations, system health, and technical metrics.
• Build scalable testing strategies for configuration and rules, replacing manual test efforts with automated coverage and repeatable regression runs.
• Drive AI-augmented development using tools such as Claude Code, Claude Tag, and GitHub Copilot, while establishing standards for generated code, testing, and documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of progressive engineering management experience, including managing managers; the role leads 2–3 Engineering Managers and approximately 20–30 engineers.
• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems and microservices at scale, including event-driven and event-sourced architectures.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, Golang and/or Python backend services, gRPC, REST APIs, and asynchronous messaging.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes, along with automated testing, test-driven development, monitoring, continuous delivery, and release strategy.
• Must be available to work remotely from the United States. E-Verify is used to confirm employment eligibility for newly hired employees.

Nice to have

• Experience in life insurance, annuities, or another regulated industry.
• Experience delivering enterprise or carrier implementations against contractual dates.
