AVP, Treaty Reinsurance Underwriting (Middle East and Africa)

Location: Hybrid, based in Warren, New Jersey, with alternative office locations in New York City and Philadelphia; onsite in Warren 3 days per week. Approximately 6 weeks of international travel per year to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.

Salary: $177,000–$215,000 annually, plus benefits.

What you will do

• Underwrite and manage excess-of-loss and proportional treaty accounts within defined underwriting authority and risk appetite.
• Make underwriting decisions supporting targeted profitability and identify profitable new business opportunities in the Middle East and Africa.
• Define and execute market and underwriting strategies while maintaining knowledge of regional markets and industry trends.
• Build relationships with ceding companies and reinsurance brokers, lead marketing trips, and represent hirify.global at client meetings, broker meetings, and industry events.
• Manage and mentor junior team members and provide management support to the Head of Middle East and Africa Treaty.
• Collaborate with corporate underwriting, actuarial, claims, accounting, and contract wording teams while maintaining compliance and documentation standards.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a reinsurance treaty underwriter for non-life business lines.
• Very strong analytical and technical skills, including the ability to interpret catastrophe modeling and actuarial methodologies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and negotiating skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Suite proficiency and advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to learn and use company-specific electronic filing and processing systems to analyze, document, and manage business.
• Ability to stay organized and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented, high-intensity environment.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in business, risk management, or a related field.
• Fluency in French or Arabic.
