Associate Director, Energy Consulting

Location: Remote, must be based in Toronto, Ontario or Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 145,299–195,299 per year

What you will do

• Lead energy efficiency, electrification, distributed energy resources, and decarbonization potential studies for US and Canadian utilities and government agencies.
• Develop DER dispatch and co-optimization strategies, market adoption curves, and innovative program strategies.
• Conduct energy technology market research, advanced energy-saving calculations, and economic analyses for residential and commercial sectors.
• Evaluate and benchmark program performance while managing and analyzing large datasets with advanced Excel functions.
• Support business development, proposal writing, stakeholder presentations, and preparation of reports, white papers, and other client deliverables.
• Manage projects and resources and contribute to regulatory and public stakeholder processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, with demonstrated interest in sustainability, building energy efficiency, building science, renewables, or related subjects.
• 8+ years of related energy industry experience or equivalent academic experience in energy consulting, energy management, building science, DSM, regulatory support, program design, or implementation.
• Demonstrated project and resource management experience.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, writing, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Must be based in Toronto, Ontario or Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in electrical engineering, building science, energy policy, or a related engineering discipline.
• Knowledge of DER adoption curves, Bass Diffusion curves, program benchmarking, and calibration.
• Knowledge of energy efficiency technologies, NPV, IRR, utility cost-effectiveness tests, energy policy, and regulation.
• Experience with renewables, US and Canadian energy codes, energy storage, CHP, OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, or other energy modeling methods.
• Experience leading a team with at least two direct reports and developing client relationships.
