Design/Drafting Specialist (Electric Utility Design)

Location: Hybrid role based at the Tulare Service Center in Tulare, California, US. Employees must report to an SCE facility for a set number of days and generally work and reside in California; remaining days may be worked remotely. Relocation does not apply.

Pay: $41.92–$62.84 per hour.

What you will do

• Develop complex electrical designs, scaled work order maps, physical diagrams, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams using CAD, Autodesk Utility Design, and Design Manager.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and substation engineers on project scope, alternatives analysis, design modifications, and larger residential and commercial projects.
• Determine CAD application, file structure, and project setup while supporting improvements to system design, operation, maintenance, and safety.
• Assign projects to SCE contractors, validate labor hours, and review the quality of completed deliverables.
• Provide subject-matter expertise for process and technology projects, including documentation, testing, training, and post-development stabilization.
• Train and mentor junior designers, lead standards meetings, and assist planners with job walks.

Requirements

• At least three years of experience preparing and maintaining detailed design drawings, schematics, or specifications using computer-aided design or computer-aided engineering software.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with engineering teams, planners, substation engineers, and contractors.
• Ability to protect physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets and properly manage private customer, proprietary, confidential medical, and other sensitive information.

Nice to have

• Experience with Autodesk Utility Design (AUD).
• AutoCAD certification.
• Experience with SAP, S4HANA, WorkIt, and SharePoint.
• Experience with permit requests, electric utility design, and customer service.
