Senior Hardware Engineer (Systems) (Embedded)

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada — onsite position

Salary: CAD 86,900–136,900 annually, plus bonus opportunity.

Manufactures rugged products for military and other harsh-environment applications at a high-mix, small-batch design and manufacturing facility in Ottawa.

What you will do

• Drive the full systems engineering lifecycle for rugged deployed systems, from requirements definition through design, integration, verification, and certification.
• Define low-level system, functional module, software, and external vendor requirements.
• Architect hardware and software solutions for mission-critical embedded systems.
• Lead system integration, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting across hardware, firmware, and operating-system layers.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, power, safety, and certification standards.
• Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing disciplines to deliver reliable systems for extreme conditions.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of systems engineering experience with rugged deployed systems for harsh environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science; a technologist diploma or equivalent experience may be considered.
• Experience with requirements management, traceability, validation, formal documentation, and Design for Manufacturability.
• Experience with DOORS and JIRA; proficiency with high-speed interconnects, PCB design, serial protocols, and rugged electronic assemblies.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810, DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, ARP4754, and MIL-STD-882.
• Proficiency in Windows and Linux, scripting or automation with Python or a similar language, and strong technical communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of Cameo.
• Experience with system safety analyses, including SSA, FHA, and FMEA.
• Prior FAA or RTCA certification experience.
